There is nothing easy about shoeing or trimming horses. We just make it look
that way because we are conditioned to do it.
It’s
HARD WORK. We find most people get into it for the
wrong reasons. They want a career working with horses
and besides Farriery and

Veterinary
medicine there are not a lot of solid options. People tend
to watch or see a working Farrier and think to themselves
I can do that. Shoeing horses is NOT for everyone. You
must love horses, be able to tolerate pain, and you cannot
be afraid of hard work, sweat and dirt.
It’s
not a matter of if you are going to get hurt; it’s
when and how bad!
Here
at C.H.S we are not gender specific nor require you to
have a certain amount of horse experience. The strongest
man will never out power even a small horse. We find the
people with good work- ethics and little horse experience
do well, as they haven’t developed any bad habits.
HORSEMANSHIP
is probably the most important skill in becoming a successful
farrier. The Canadian Horseshoeing School , welcomes you
to an interview at your convenience. This will allow you
to see what the C-H-S has to offer you , plus meet the
present students and staff .
From
our program you can expect to learn , trimming and shoeing
techniques to keep a sound horse sound . This enables the
successful
graduate to be competent at his/her skilled level of farriery .
Most students look for the shorter courses offered , however we feel you need
to look at the longest course , and the best student - to - teacher ratio .We
find We find 15 weeks is bare minimum and have an open door policy for any
past students to continue to use our facility.
You should plan on at least five years of dedication to the trade before running
a solid and successful practice. We focus on balance of the skeletal column
and it’s support. We also cover practically all aspects of the industry.
We here at C.H.S do not consider ourselves to be experts, an expert is someone
who can testify in a court of law……there are too many grey areas
when it comes to studying the equine digit………you can never
stop learning.
However,
we are very passionate about what we do for the horse.
Here
at the Canadian Horseshoeing School we truly focus
on basic sound
entry level Farriery.
